Black and White Colobus Monkeys

Black and White Colobus Monkeys
Colobus guereza kikuyyensis

Geographic distribution Sub Sahara, Savannahs, semi-deserts of Africa

Black and white colobus monkeys live in social groups of 8-15 individuals consisting of a single male who leads a harem of females and their offspring. The male's leadership responsibilities are mainly defense, including protection from predators and other male competitors. Their food source is leaves, abundant in the canopy and thus these colobus monkeys do not have to range widely. Black and white colobus babies are born with a short, all white coat (natal coat) and begin to acquire an adult coat pattern around four months.
